Expenditure Responsibility Defined

When a private foundation makes a grant to an organization that is not classified by the IRS as tax exempt under Section 501(c)(3) it is required by law to ensure that the funds are spent for charitable purposes and not for private gain or political activities. Special reports on the status of the grant must be filed with the IRS.

WASHINGTON, Jul 1 (OneWorld.net) - A renowned climate scientist, an actress, a former lawmaker, and local residents in West Virginia were arrested last week while protesting the coal mining method of mountaintop removal, which environmental experts and citizens say destroys mountain ranges and contaminates water.
